How to Read a Supplement Facts Panel Like a Pro

By The Gelagen Team · September 2026

The Supplement Facts panel is required by the FDA on every dietary supplement sold in the United States. Learning to read it properly takes five minutes and saves you from years of misleading marketing.

Serving size comes first

Before looking at any nutrient amount, check the serving size. Gelagen’s serving is 2 gummies. If a competitor lists impressive numbers per 4 gummies but sells 60-count bottles, they are giving you a 15-day supply, not 30.

Understanding % Daily Value

Percent DV shows how much a serving contributes to the daily recommended intake. 100% DV does not mean maximum — it means the recommended daily amount. Values above 100% (like our Biotin at 16,667% DV) mean the supplemental dose exceeds the DV, which is common for water-soluble vitamins.

Watch for proprietary blends

If you see a blend listed with a total weight but individual ingredients without doses, the brand is hiding how much of each ingredient is actually present. This is legal but not in your interest. Gelagen uses no proprietary blends.

Unit conversions

Labels use mcg, mg and g. Some also use DFE (Dietary Folate Equivalents) or RAE (Retinol Activity Equivalents). These conversions account for different bioavailability of various nutrient forms. Our folate article explains DFE in detail.
