Skin aging has two drivers: intrinsic aging (genetic, time-based) and extrinsic aging (environmental, primarily UV-driven). Antioxidants address the extrinsic component by neutralizing reactive oxygen species that damage collagen, elastin and cellular DNA.
UV radiation generates free radicals in skin tissue. These unstable molecules damage cell membranes, break down collagen fibers and trigger inflammatory cascades that accelerate visible aging — wrinkles, loss of firmness and uneven pigmentation.
Our formula includes all three. Vitamin E research shows it protects cell membranes from lipid peroxidation. Vitamin C neutralizes free radicals in the aqueous environment between cells. Vitamin A supports the repair processes that follow oxidative damage.
Oral antioxidant supplements provide systemic support, but they cannot match the protection of physical sunscreen. The NIAMS is unambiguous: sun protection is the most evidence-based anti-aging intervention. Supplements complement this — they do not replace it.
Gelagen includes antioxidant vitamins as part of a 13-nutrient formula. We position them as one layer of defense, not a standalone solution. See the full benefits our formula targets.
